Director Identification Number
8-digit unique number assigned to a person who is or intends to be a director of a company.
DIN is mandatory under Section 153 of the Companies Act 2013. Issued by MCA after KYC verification. Once allotted, the same DIN is used across all directorships. Annual DIR-3 KYC filing is mandatory by 30 September; missing it triggers ₹5,000 penalty + DIN deactivation.
Every director of a Pvt Ltd, Public Ltd, OPC. LLP designated partners get a DPIN (functionally identical).
